A picture is worth a thousand words.

The use of images in an electronic learning environment is one of the key reasons that this style of learning is popular. Images not only suit visual learners and break up information in traditional written form, they also stimulate learning in various parts of the brain.

  1. Sometimes it is worth much more than a thousand words. For example, it is impossible to describe in words the shade of red my hair is, unless you start using colour codes developed by graphics design artists. But even if you did... what would that code number mean? Even better though are interactive animations such as http://bit.ly/aNkzSO, as not only is it visual, but it allows for the relative sizes of all the different cells to be demonstrated. And this animation (Adobe Shockwave required to view) http://bit.ly/9YbWIs, which makes a topic that I recently studied, and was unable to understand due to the way it was taught (a 3d geometry topic taught using 2d tools - pencil and paper), but when I looked at this animation, it suddenly starts to make sense!!!
